• US storm losses could run to hundreds of millions

    Aon Benfield's Impact Forecasting has warned that insured
    losses from a storm system in the US over the Christmas holiday
    weekend could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, with
    economic losses approaching $1bn.
    In its cat alert, the unit said that only a fraction of the
    flood damage in parts of the Plains and Midwest were expected to be
    covered by insurance, given the low number of National Flood
    Insurance Program policies in place in many of those states....
  • PwC revises UK storm loss estimate up to £1.2bn

    Global accountancy firm PwC has predicted that insured losses
    from UK storms Desmond and Eva will be between £900m and
    £1.2bn ($1.3bn-$1.8bn).
    This is slightly above its previous "very initial"
    insured loss estimate of £700mn-£1bn ($1.0bn-$1.5bn),
    released last week.
    Eva caused severe flooding in northern England over the

    Willis has received regulatory approval for its acquisition of
    French insurance broker Gras Savoye, it announced today (30
    December).
    Willis struck a deal to buy the 70 percent of Gras Savoye that
    it didn't already own for EUR550mn in April this year, which
    included the repayment of EUR40mn of outstanding third-party
    debt.
    The deal completed yesterday after Gras Savoye shareholders
    accepted the offer in late June.
