Children’s Day in Leeds began in 1922 and ran until 1963. Pupils from nearly every school in the city congregated in Roundhay Park’s arena for dancing, displays and sports. There was a Children’s Day queen and attendants, a fancy dress parade and a bonny baby competition. At its height, Children’s Day attracted crowds of up to 100,000, all organised by local teachers.
