Most people talk about self-driving cars with breathless excitement — after all, think about the possibilities. No more worrying about people driving under the influence. No concerns about a hit and run involving a distracted, texting 17-year-old. No more stressful commutes filled with honking and traffic. The list goes on and on.
A land populated by self-driving cars sounds like one step closer to utopia — except for the fact that widespread adoption of driverless cars has at l

Managing audiences across social media platforms: Insights from Dmexco
The state of social media is completely different to what it was five years ago. With the emergence of social networks such as Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram, marketers have an abundance of opportunities to engage with audiences.
Every minute 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube and 347,222 tweets are sent. So how should brands be using social media to target consumers?
At Dmexco, The Drum spoke with representatives from five companies to learn how they are managing audiences across these -
To emerge triumphant from London ban Uber will need to stand for more than just price
Loyal Uber users have emerged overwhelmingly in support of the brand after it was effectively banned from operating in the capital. But if it’s to emerge unscathed it will need to recognise problems of the past and convince consumers, and the powers-that-be, that its values go beyond price.
In the aftermath of Transport for London's (TfL) decison not to renew Uber's private hire licence, killing the cab service in London (UberEATS, its food delivery arm w -

Uber starts petition to save Uber in London
Uber was dealt a blow by Transport for London (TfL) when it made the landmark decision to decline granting it a new private hire licence thus expelling it from the city from the 30 September. However, Uber has a plan to rally Londoners behind it with an online petition.
Following the announcement by TfL earlier today, the ride-share company promptly announced its intention to appeal the decision.

Why I am backing BIMA and The Drum Network to help progress Scotland's digital sector
For as long as I've been writing about the media and marketing sector I have often thought about how the progress of the industry where I began - Scotland - could be improved.
We often talk about Scotland as a beautiful place to see (and indeed it has just been voted the most beautiful place on earth) and about its whisky economy - but the truth is, despite being 'the home' of whisky - it's not even the highest maker in the world of the stuff.
Scotland is a country of potential that has a footba -

36 hours at Dmexco: three learnings from this year's festival
Once again, an exciting few days at Dmexco have drawn to a close and I've been left feeling humbled to be a part of such an energetic, fast-paced industry.
As Mindshare’s Norm Johnston remarked in a piece in the lead up to the event, the industry is experiencing a ‘painful bout of growing pains’. There were certainly some tough questions being asked in the Koelnmesse this year, and while the industry might not yet have all the answers, there is clearly a steely deter -
TfL puts the brakes on Uber in London after denying it private hire licence
Uber has suffered a major blow from the City of London after Transport for London made the decision to decline it a new private hire licence. As it stands Uber drivers can operate until the 30 September.
The move could reportedly put 40,000 drivers' jobs at risk.
There has long been a conflict between the ride-hailing company and local London cabbies who feel the disruptive app has no right to operate on their territory.
Globally this same friction is in place. Taxi companies have burd -

Building a voice team in your agency is the next step in content evolution
First mover advantage is a thing. It’s certainly not an automatic pass to market dominance, but it matters.
It’s for that reason that I consider building out a voice team in an agency is the way forward. Think I’m crazy? Let me explain my rationale…
When we started Zazzle Media Back in 2009 we started we seized on a simple truth; marketers were simply not investing in content online. In hindsight that now seems like folly, but at the time it was true. And, to begin with -
