The truth about vinyl grooves and clay feet | Brief letters
Bass lines | Best pizzerias in the world | The art of bronze | David Beckham | Mutiny Over the Bounty | The TheIf Simon Jenkins (Opinion, 2 February) had played one of his many LPs through a modern amp, he would know that a vinyl groove does not hold a deep bass line (Letters, 6 February). He would hear a rather tinny sound, because the bass is recreated in phono amp. If the LP held all the bass, the grooves would be bigger, limiting the number of tracks.

Green Day review – pop-punk pranksters banish the blues
Leeds Arena
Legs are splayed and fists are pumped as the jubilant trio deliver a thunderous masterclass in stagecraft and showmanshipDonald Trump’s presidency has certainly given Californian punk-pop giants Green Day something new to rail against. At November’s American music awards, shortly after the election, the Berkeley trio launched into an impromptu chant of “No Trump! No KKK! No fascist USA!” that has since been taken up by protesters on both sides of the Atlantic. -
David Axelrod owed his reputation to his brilliance, and his return to hip-hop
Axelrod’s music was championed by Frank Zappa and George Harrison – then forgotten, until a new generation realised it offered a rich seam for samplingFor years, David Axelrod was deeply suspicious of sampling, but he came to realise his popularity with beatmakers had its advantages.
