Tate to honour Bruce Nauman with major retrospective (after MoMA's)
Bruce Nauman is about to have a very busy few years. Not only has the multimedia artist just opened a show of his new works, the Contrapposto Studies, in both New York and Philadelphia, he has added a major retrospective at Tate Modern in London in 2019 to his packed schedule of exhibitions. The Tate survey, which has not yet been formally announced, will follow a separate retrospective co-organised by Schaulager in Basel and New York's Museum of Modern Art, which is due to open in Switzerland -

PAD fair returns to London's Berkeley Square with tribute to Zaha Hadid
The late architect Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) was a longstanding supporter of PAD London, which first pitched its smart black tent in Londons Hanover Square ten years ago. In 2010, the French ambassador presented Hadid with the distinction of Commandeur dans lOrdre des Arts et des Lettres at the fair, which by then had expanded and relocated to nearby Berkeley Square.
Patrick Perrin, the chief executive and president of PAD Paris and London, says: She was more than a supporter. She was a member and -
Met sued over Picasso painting allegedly sold under duress by Jewish refugee
A lawsuit was filed against the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) on Friday, 30 September, by the estate of Paul Leffmanna German-Jewish businessman and refugee who fled from Nazi rule in 1938in an effort to recover Pablo Picassos painting The Actor (1904-05).
The lawsuit states that Leffman sold the painting under duress to Hugo Perls, a Parisian art dealer, and Paul Rosenberg, Picassos dealer, for $13,200 when he and his wife fled to Italy and then Brazil. In 1941, the American automotive soci -
It’s back to the Nineties for Frieze London
Describing the 1990s as historical will make many in the art world feel old, but Frieze London is dedicating a new section to the decade this year. The Nineties, headed up by the critic and curator Nicolas Trembley, will see 14 galleries (some working together) revisit important exhibitions from that decade that helped shape the contemporary art scene.
The whole Nineties generation was working in a period of radical shiftfrom the fall of the Berlin Wall to the AIDS crisis and the creation of th -

The Mysterious And Winding Path To Publishing, In English, Writing By Magritte
“Weirdly, a fully translated (albeit rough and typewritten) manuscript of Magritte’s Selected Writings by the now-dead translator Jo Levy had been languishing in an archive in Caen, France for close to 30 years, unbeknownst to just about anyone.” -
The Met Gets Sued For One Of Its Best Picassos
“The estate of a German Jewish businessman sued the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday in an effort to claim one of its most valuable Picassos, ‘The Actor,’ asserting in court papers that the museum does not hold good title to the painting because the businessman was forced to sell it at a low price after fleeing the Nazis.” -
Sir Neville Marriner, Founder Of The Academy Of St. Martin In The Fields And Conductor Of Pretty Much Everyone, Has Died At 92
“He formed the Academy with the aim of forming a top-class chamber ensemble from London’s finest players. Ironically, it was conceived as a conductor-free refuge for string-players but Marriner became, as he put it, ‘a turncoat’ – a conductor who on stage, as often as not, held a violin in one hand and a baton in the other.” -
By Following The Money, An Italian Journalist May Have Tracked Down The Identity Of Elena Ferrante
“But after a months-long investigation it is now possible to make a powerful case for Ferrante’s true identity. Far from the daughter of a Neapolitan seamstress described in Frantumaglia, new revelations from real estate and financial records point to … a Rome-based translator whose German-born mother fled the Holocaust and later married a Neapolitan magistrate.” -
Should Actors Be Able To Remove Their Ages From IMdB?
“Actors, like Donald Trump, prefer to remain ‘semi-exact’ when it comes to the facts. Perception is our domain, not to be undermined by actuality. A fact like an actor’s date of birth stands in the way of our dreams at some point in all our working lives – we’re no different from anyone else in this – but it’s notoriously true that actors contend with age in unequal ways.” -
An American In Paris, Whose Paintings Found New Fame In New York In The 1990s
“Working in a small apartment-studio on the Left Bank, Ms. Jaffe refined and extended her inquiries into the drama of form and color — always at a distance, literally and figuratively, from the currents of American art.” -

Turner prize 2016; Helen Marten/Marc Camille Chaimowicz – review
Tate Britain; Serpentine Galleries, London
The restless variety of this year’s Turner prize show is a sure sign of format fatigue. For true glitz, try Marc Camille ChaimowiczThe Instagram moment is the bare bum, of course: a gigantic backside clutched by a pair of muckle hands. It comes straight from the carnivalesque. Or not quite straight, because the artist, Anthea Hamilton, has enlarged it from a design by Gaetano Pesce for a New York apartment block, to which it would have been a door
