Ukraine’s State border guards have released astonishing video footage of the moment they uncovered the 17 Old Master paintings stolen from the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona last November. The works by Jacopo Tintoretto, Pisanello, Peter Paul Rubens and others were wrapped in black plastic bags and hidden in shrubbery on an island near the Moldovan border.

Disrupting the orchestra model, doing away with artistic directors, a cure for what ails the Met Opera, how our ideas about knowledge are changing, and recreating Leonardo (no kidding!) -
This Week In Audience: New Audience V. Old Audience Edition
A confluence of stories this week that rocket between new and old, digital and physical. Physical books making a comeback while e-book sales fall. Downloads collapsing as streaming takes hold. Transitions sure are messy… -
Print Was Never Dead, But It’s Rising Again Anyway
“Publishing, like other industries before (and since), suffered a bad attack of technodazzle: It failed to distinguish between newness and value. It could read digital’s hysterical cheerleaders, but not predict how a market of human beings would respond to a product once the novelty had passed. It ignored human nature. Reading the meaning of words is not consuming a manufacture: it is experience.” -
The Trend Of ‘Beer And Ballet’
“You can see the dancers, watch them work their butts off, and have a good time. It’s a bonding experience for the dancers, too, because they get together and have a beer and hang out.” -
The Curator Who Doesn’t Stop Going To Work Just Because He’s Retired
Joe Rishel, the man who guided and transformed the Philadelphia Museum of Art during his decades there, is“now simply emeritus curator of European painting – a curator who comes in at 10 in the morning, not 9, and doesn’t wear a tie.” -
Why The Director Of Last Year’s Oscar-Nominated ‘Mustang’ Says She Can’t Work In Her Country Anymore
“The situation for women in Turkey is, [Mustang director Deniz Gamze Ergüven] believes, now very grave, for which reason she is happy for her film to be regarded as a contribution to the increasingly muscular and conflicted debate surrounding their rights, their freedom.” -

So, With A New Mayor In London, That Whole Garden Bridge Thing Is In Serious Trouble
“The new mayor’s intervention could derail a project that has attracted considerable criticism. The proposed bridge has secured vast sums of public money despite being initially promoted as entirely private-funded. It has recently been bedevilled by accusations that its designer was selected before the actual tender process began.” -
What Billionaires Do With Their Sometimes Huge Pieces Of Contemporary Art
“Faced with putting paintings in storage or donating artworks to museums, which rarely exhibit them, a solution — especially for collectors in cities like Los Angeles, land of rolling lawns — has become the backyard museum, complete with high-tech lighting, humidity controls and 25-foot ceilings.” -
How The Toronto Symphony Conquered Digital Marketing
“For example, the TSO introduced online chat functionality to its website, enabling patrons to receive real-time customer support in both official languages as well as other languages including Mandarin. Its first week in operation produced more than 200 chat sessions.” -

Twenty years ago, Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron converted London’s Bankside power station into a gallery. Now they are about to unveil the Switch House – and reinvent how we view art all over again• What I think about Tate Modern: artists, musicians and critics give their views
Jacques Herzog, the more talkative half of the pair of boyhood friends who founded the architectural practice Herzog & De Meuron, is worried about the world. “The things based on the five -
