• Another Big Mac Wednesday

My season has been a mix of things: handling my transition into retirement, managing the construction of our home and chasing NY lake effect snow. I was at it again last week, rolling over my 401k and scoring a powder day at McCauley. It’s weird being retired. It struck me again early last week when I realized the potential for another Big Mac Wednesday. McCauley is closed on Tuesdays, and if you pay attention, you can score some deep untracked from » Read More »

Are Spring-Loaded Walk Modes The Future of Telemark Boots?
Telemark skiers have been skiing in walk mode for years. For the uninitiated–especially those of the alpine touring persuasion used to footwear fine-tuned to striding–this may sound downright batty. How could someone drive a turn with their cuffs completely disengaged? How could anyone ski permanently in flimsy, unsupported walk mode?Turns out, free-heelers know better. Winter Returns To Washington: A Day Skiing at Snoqualmie Pass
Growing up, my dad used to say, “If it’s raining, that means it’s snowing in the mountains.”
The truism turned Pacific Northwest mantra provided me comfort as a Seattleite during the long winter months. I’d know that while the city streets were slick, depressing, and gray, up high in the mountains, the snow banks were piling skywards.
