• Mets Designate Gabriel Arias For Assignment

  The Mets announced Monday that infielder Gabriel Arias has been designated for assignment. His spot on the 40-man roster goes to fellow righty-swinging infielder Christopher Morel, whose contract has been selected from Triple-A Syracuse. (The Morel portion of today’s transaction was originally reported last night.)

  The Mets will select Christopher Morel‘s contract from Triple-A Syracuse prior to Monday’s game with the Padres, according to Mike Rodriguez of Rompiendo Sports.  In addition to a corresponding 26-man roster move, New York will also need to make room for Morel on the 40-man roster.
  Morel signed a minor league deal with the Mets right at the end of June, and he has already passed on one of three opt-out dates within the contract.  July 15 marked the first of those three opt-

  Hanshin Tigers slugger Teruaki Sato was expected to be posted for MLB teams this winter even before he delivered big numbers during the 2026 NPB season.  With Soto on pace for the best season of his six-year stint with the Tigers, big league clubs like the Mets, Yankees, Phillies, and Dodgers have all been “linked to Soto” as possible suitors this winter, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
