• Sheriff’s deputy slain during traffic stop near Houston

    JERSEY VILLAGE, Texas (AP) — A sheriff’s deputy has been shot and killed while making a traffic stop near Houston.
    The incident happened about 12:45 p.m. Friday in a residential cul-de-sac 18 miles (29 kilometers) northwest of Houston.
    Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the 10-year veteran of his force was making the traffic stop when someone approached him from behind and shot him multiple times. The deputy was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    OXFORD, Ala. (AP) — Police say one of two infants left in a parked car in Alabama has died.
    Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge released the information Friday in a tweet.
    Authorities say they don’t have information on the other child.
    News outlets report the children are 11-month-old twins. They were found around lunchtime Friday inside a vehicle parked at a car dealership.

    LONG BEACH, Calif. (TODAY) – Snoop Dogg’s newborn grandson, Kai Love, has died at just 10 days old.
    The sad news was shared on Instagram by the rapper’s son and Kai Love’s father, Corde Broadus. The baby boy was born Sept. 15 and died Sept. 25.

    PHOENIX (AP) — A former Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper accused of illegally detaining female drivers and propositioning them for sexual acts in exchange for leniency has pleaded not guilty to 23 criminal charges, including two counts of unlawful sexual conduct.
    Tremaine Anthony Jackson, who was fired after his arrest earlier this month, made the not guilty plea on Thursday.

    ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — A horse dumped its jockey leaving the starting gate Friday in the $300,000 Chandelier Stakes then clipped two photographers standing near the outside rail before running loose around the track at Santa Anita.

    WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Restricted free-agent forward Patrik Laine and the Winnipeg Jets agreed to a two-year, $13.5-million contract Friday.
