    HOUSTON (KPRC) – Dr Pepper is making a play to become the official soft drink of Texas.
    Dr Pepper posted a petition on Change.org, asking people to sign. The effort has nearly 300 signatures as of this writing.
    Texas, like many states, doesn’t have an official soft drink.
    However, Dr Pepper is trying to change all that, even using the social-media hashtag #DrPepperLovesTX to promote the petition.

    LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former bodyguard for Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy has become the fijnal person sentenced following the collapse of a federal prosecution stemming from an armed standoff with U.S land management agents nearly five years ago.
    Chief U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro sentenced Brian Cavalier to the 20 months he already served in custody for the April 2014 confrontation.

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers owner David Tepper says it’s important for the team to have a solid contingency plan in place at quarterback next season given the uncertainty surrounding franchise QB Cam Newton’s bothersome right shoulder.

    BEIRUT (AP) — Family members say Ed Blanche, a longtime correspondent and Middle East editor for The Associated Press who covered transformative events from Northern Ireland to Lebanon, has died. He was 76.
