Man who demanded money from Phoenix hotel guests shot
PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say a man who went to a hotel room and demanded money from two guests at gunpoint has been killed.
Police spokeswoman Mercedes Fortune said Sunday that 40-year-old Aaron Townsend was shot by someone he had tried to rob.
Fortune said Townsend had demanded two men in the hotel room give him money while he stood outside the open door Saturday. Townsend briefly turned the gun on someone outside the room, and one of the men inside grabbed a gun and shot Townsend.

American Airlines co-pilot falls ill during flight to Tucson
TUCSON — American Airlines officials have confirmed a co-pilot on a plane from Dallas/Fort Worth was hospitalized after getting sick during the flight.
According to the American Airlines Communication Department, Flight 2710 landed in Tucson just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday with a medical emergency. More than a hundred passengers were on the flight.

Man dies in shooting at Mesa convenience store
MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Police in Mesa say a man is dead after being shot at a convenience store.
Police spokesman Esteban Flores says the shooting happened just before midnight Saturday at Z’s Convenience.
The man who died is in his 50s. A second shooting victim was in serious condition at a local hospital.
Flores said Sunday that police are still investigating but believe the shooting could have been the result of a robbery gone bad.

Stray puppy found with broken jaw is on his way to recovery
PHOENIX (KPNX) — A severely malnourished 6-month-old puppy with a broken jaw is on his way to recovery, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control says.
According to a Facebook post by the shelter, a stray lethargic puppy was found at a schoolyard. The dog, now named Binx, was so small that MCACC staff thought he was less than eight weeks old.
