    MEXICO CITY (AP) — The Mexican government has banned disposable containers at the Holbox resort, located at the tip of the Yucatan peninsula.
    Holbox is best known for its shallow seas, flamingos and whale sharks. But the small, eco-tourist resort has been plagued by problems of deficient infrastructure and unlicensed expansion.
    The new rules announced Monday will ban all Styrofoam, PET and other non-biodegradable containers from being taken to the resort, a natural protected area.

    STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi police say they have charged a man in the 1990 killing of one woman and rape of another, using DNA to connect him to the crime scene.
    Starkville Police Sgt. Bill Lott says Monday that 52-year-old Michael Wayne Devaughn of Rienzi is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 65-year-old Betty Jones and sexual battery in the rape of 81-year-old Kathryn Crigler.

    HONOLULU (AP) — Workers at some of Hawaii’s most iconic hotels are joining a national strike.
    About 2,700 Marriott employees on Oahu and Maui on Monday joined the strike that began last week in Boston, San Francisco and other cities.
    They work at four Waikiki properties operated by Marriott, including The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, an historic institution famous for its pink exterior.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri man is charged with a felony after he allegedly filmed himself removing an ankle monitor and then posted the video on Facebook.
    Thirty-three-year-old Dustin Burns of Springfield was charged last week with tampering with electronic monitoring equipment.
