Colorado prosecutors ask judge to block autopsies’ release
DENVER (AP) — Colorado prosecutors want a judge to block release of the autopsy reports of a woman and two young girls found dead at an oil work site, arguing that the cause of their deaths will be critical evidence during the trial of the man charged with killing his family.
In a request filed in Weld County Court on Monday, District Attorney Michael Rourke said releasing information from the autopsies could influence witnesses and affect future jurors.
Christopher Watts, 33, was arrested -

Feinstein’s opponent seizes on her role in Kavanaugh fight
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Sen. Dianne Feinstein is facing criticism from both Republicans and her Democratic re-election opponent over her handling of allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Feinstein received a letter earlier this summer from a constituent accusing Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party more than thirty years ago. The allegations didn’t begin to surface publicly until last week.

Tucson mayor holds press conference to urge support of refuges
TUCSON – After more than 76 refugee offices closed its doors since January, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild held a press conference Friday to help urge community members to support the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program.
According to officials, there are currently more than 68 million people displaced from their homes. Of those, 25 million are registered refugees.
“Tucson has always welcomed refugees,” said Mayor Rothschild. “There’s no question that people coming in -
Pet insurance: How to get the best price and coverage
Until he suddenly got sick with a life-threatening bacterial infection, Sam, our lovable chihuahua-terrier mix, was as healthy as a horse (excuse the expression). Luckily, the emergency veterinarians at the local animal hospital knew what to do and saved Sam’s life.
My wife and I knew the bill for five days of round-the-clock care was going to be expensive, but we didn’t have to worry about that because Sam had health insurance. The total bill came to $10,000, which we had to pa -
Indians’ Bauer throws to hitters for first time since injury
CLEVELAND (AP) — Trevor Bauer threw to hitters for the first time since breaking his right leg last month and hopes to be back on the mound for Cleveland in time for the postseason.
The right-hander pitched three simulated innings of about 17-to-19 pitches per inning and jokingly told manager Terry Francona he was available against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
“I’m glad he feels that way,” Francona said. “I don’t think that’s going to happen, -
Michigan professor declines to endorse student’s Israel trip
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — University of Michigan officials have criticized a professor’s decision not to recommend a student for a study program in Israel.
The school said in a statement Tuesday it opposes boycotts of Israeli higher education institutions. It adds “injecting personal politics” in decisions related to supporting students “is counter to our values.”
Professor John Cheney-Lippold initially said he couldn’t write a recommendation letter for ju -
Lawyer: Move trial from courthouse with Confederate monument
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A legal argument has been revived in Louisiana over whether a black defendant can get a fair trial in a courthouse where a Confederate monument is displayed.
Niles Haymer, a lawyer for defendant Ronnie Anderson, says the answer is no.
Haymer says he filed a motion Tuesday to have Anderson’s case moved out of state court in East Feliciana Parish, where a Confederate monument stands outside the courthouse.
A judge rejected a similar motion in August, saying Haymer fi -

Book: Wisconsin quietly OK’d Lake Michigan water diversion
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A decision by Wisconsin officials eight years ago to approve a big, new allotment of water from Lake Michigan to Pleasant Prairie is raising questions of transparency.
The 2010 decision gave the Kenosha County community on the Illinois border the right to tap millions of gallons of more water a day for years to come.
The decision by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was made in the final year of Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle’s administration.

NOT REAL NEWS: Anderson Cooper didn’t fake flood broadcast
Several online sites have shared photos of CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, falsely claiming the images prove he faked the wrath of Hurricane Florence on air.
The claims were made after Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, tweeted a photo of Cooper in waist-deep flood waters, while his camera crew stood a few feet away in water up to their ankles. In his tweet, sent over the weekend as Hurricane Florence unleashed winds, rains and floods across the East Coast, Trump called on the television n -

Mountain lion visits Colorado motel but doesn’t stay long
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A mountain lion has been caught on surveillance camera dashing to the doorstep of a Colorado motel office, venturing toward the open doorway and then wandering away.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Jason Clay says nobody was hurt in the Sept. 9 encounter.
The Boulder Daily Camera reported Tuesday the lion approached the Foot of the Mountain Motel on Boulder’s west side. Just after entering the camera’s view, the lion pauses, as if startled. Clay says -
