In this week's paper, I wrote about Bouquet XI, an installation of flowers designed to make you sneeze, at the Henry Art Gallery. The living piece, which gets refreshed every 10 days in a complicated dance involving two ladders and three people, is intended to evoke the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. All the plants are native to the contested lands in and around Israel, and several have strong allergenic properties.

You profiled me. I know you did, because we had mutual friends and you knew how hard turning 40 was for me. Then you just turned up one day. I wish I had never let you sit down next to me at the bar. I wish I hadn't been beguiled by your bedroom eyes. I was going through a crisis when I asked you over, and I would rather have been rejected then, instead of what came after. The worst part is that you touched me in such a way that I can't erase your existence from my memory...

The fact is it is a deeply unequal society and if you want to take measures to address the inequality, then it requires challenging the status quo."Kelly O

Mike Huckabee: My Position on Displaying Confederate Battle Flag is Irrelevant
It's irrelevant because he isn't personally displaying the Confederate battle flag:
NBC's Chuck Todd made several attempts on Sunday to get presidential candidate Mike Huckabee to weigh in on whether or not South Carolina should remove the Confederate battle flag from the capitol grounds after the murder of nine black people at a church in Charleston last week. "I still feel like it's not an issue for a presidential candidate," the former Arkansas governor responded.... "I don’t personally

Gay pride should not go forward in memory of our black brothers and sisters who were gunned down in a safe place, a place of freedom by a culture that encourages and embraces racism, a culture of evil. This was not the action of just one man, it was the action of all of us. We as members of the LGBT community cannot stand by and remain silent. Let us stand up and say, "Not in our community, not in our country."

There Is No Snowpack in Washington Right Now: “That doesn’t mean there isn’t any snow at higher elevations. There are glaciers up there,” Jeff Marti of the state Department of Ecology told the Seattle Times. “It does mean the snowpack — what we depend on for our water supply — has essentially gone to zero already for the summer.”
