    PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Austin Meadows is the May National League Rookie of Month.
    The MLB says Meadows is the first Pirates player to be named Rookie of the Month since July 2015, when Jung Ho Kang won the honor.
    Meadows played his first Major League game on May 18 against the San Diego Padres.

    PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Ryan Shazier’s newest tattoo is a tribute to everything he’s been through over the past several months.
    Shazier posted a photo in an Instagram story on Saturday afternoon showing a large tattoo reading “SHALIEVE” going down the front of his right leg. He did not say when he got the new tattoo.

  • Wildfire Threatening New Mexico Village Grows To Over 42 Square Miles

    CIMARRON, N.M. (AP) – A wildfire threatening a village in northern New Mexico has doubled in size to over 42 square miles as firefighters try to protect nearly 300 homes and a Boy Scouts camp.
    Fire management team spokeswoman Sandra Lopez said the fire on Saturday was about 3 miles west of Cimarron, which was evacuated Friday.
    The fire has destroyed 12 to 14 outbuildings at nearby Philmont Scout Ranch.

    The restaurant chain says teachers, counselors, admins, education professionals, retired teachers and school bus drivers can get a free meal on Tuesday, June 5.
    School employees who show a valid school ID can choose from one of five Tavern Double Burgers. The burger also comes with bottomless steak fries.
    The offer excludes online orders.

  • Child Flown To Hospital After Near-Drowning In State Park

    DERRY, Pa. (KDKA) — A child reportedly almost drowned at a park in Westmoreland County on Saturday afternoon.
    The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. in Derry.
    Emergency dispatchers confirmed that medics were able to work on the child after the near-drowning at Keystone State Park.
    The child was transported by medical helicopter to Children’s Hospital in an unknown condition.
    The age of the child has not been released.

    (CBS) – When Virginia resident Jeffrey Dill went fishing at a lake in Virginia Beach last weekend, he didn’t expect to smash a 24-year-old state record.
    Dill explained that he felt something pulling on the other end of his $20 Walmart rod on Saturday morning while fishing at Lake Smith. After about 15 minutes of tug-of-war with the fish, Dill pulled his catch out of the water and was shocked by what he saw.
