  PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) — A Carlow University student was rushed to the hospital this afternoon after falling from a balcony on campus.
  According to Drew Wilson, a spokesman with the university’s Media Relations department, the male student fell from a fifth-floor balcony at the University Commons building on Fifth Avenue.

  SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — One person is dead after a car slammed into a tree this afternoon in Westmoreland County.
  The accident happened around 3 p.m. in the 2200 block of Mars Hill Road, near K Vay’s restaurant, in Sewickley Township.
  The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.
  The name of the victim has not yet been released.

  PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A K-9 with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police died suddenly.
  The officer named Mixo passed away Tuesday after serious health complications. Despite those issues, handlers did not expect to lose the dog.
  Mixo was trained in narcotics and patrol work. He joined the unit in 2010.

  PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – High winds had a big impact on western Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon.
  There were reports of downed trees all over Allegheny and Beaver counties and thousands were left without power.
  As of 6 a.m., 1,803 Duquesne Light customers were still without power.

  WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — Emergency crews responded to a house fire early Wednesday morning in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County.
  Firefighters arrived on the scene in the 2800 block of State Route 956 around 4 a.m. They found the second floor of the house engulfed in flames.
  There was no immediate word from officials on whether anyone was in the house at the time of the fire.
  Part of State Route 956 was closed while emergency crews were on the scene.
