• Lawmakers hear testimony on $1 billion business tax proposal

    Oregon lawmakers on Thursday heard more than two hours of testimony on a proposed corporate tax that would raise an estimated $1 billion in new revenue annually and dedicate the money to K-12 public schools.Raising $2 billion per biennium for education is a top priority of Gov. Kate Brown.
    The proposed tax would be coupled with a reduction in personal income tax for the state's lowest three income brackets.
    The business tax would be levied against gross receipts in Oregon of $1 million or more.&

    Brian Oliver, Aequitas Capital's longtime No. 2 executive, on Friday pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 5. Oliver is the first former Aequitas Capital executive to be criminally charged. The Oregonian first reported the criminal charges and guilty plea.
