    Residential composting program expanding
    New York City is expanding its residential composting program. The Department of Sanitation plans to expand the program to an extra 33,000 households this year. It will include neighborhoods in the Bronx, including the Riverdale, North Riverdale and Fieldston sections. It will also include Brooklyn's Greenpoint and North Williamsburg neighborhoods.

    Woman slashed on neck aboard subway
    The NYPD is looking for the suspect who slashed a woman on the neck inside a subway car. It happened in Brooklyn on Monday at 6:15 p.m. on an A train. Police say the 29-year-old victim was aboard a southbound train stopped at the Euclid Avenue station when the suspect approached and slashed her with a sharp object. The suspect then ran out of the train.

    New York City public high schools will be able to demonstrate condom usage in health education classes if they choose to, starting this fall. The city's Department of Education says school superintendents were told about the change in policy last month. Condom demonstrations have not previously been permitted in classrooms.

After spending two years in upstate New York's Finger Lakes region studying viticulture and wine technology, Devin Shomaker, 31, decided he missed big city life but didn't want to leave wine-making behind. So he decided to bring his trade to a rooftop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
