• Large Woods Fire Wednesday Evening in Attala

  The Attala County Fire Department received word of a woods fire on Attala Rd. 3102 at about 7:30 p.m evening.
  When they arrived, they found a blaze covering approximately 20 acres of woods.
  Forestry responded and plowed a lane to contain the fire.
  The cause is currently under investigation.

  A shed near a residence on Attala Rd. 3122 caught fire Wednesday afternoon. The Attala County Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze just before 2 p.m.
  By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had engulfed a second shed and had spread into the woods for about 4 acres.
  The sheds were unfortunately not able to be saved, but the firefighters worked to contain the fire.
  Initially they requested Forestry’s assistance but were able to contain the flames with the help of McCool Volunteer

  By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had reached the house and had spread into the trees.
  They were able to douse the flames on the house and prevent further damages, but the shed was unfortunately unable to be saved. They worked to contain the woods fire while waiting for Forestry to arrive.

• AAA: Average Gas Price in MS Moving Toward $4, Some Stations Already There

  The average price of gas in Mississippi is creeping closer to $4 a gallon.   AAA says it’s less than a dime away now at $3.93.   The auto club says the statewide average has gone up 13 cents in the past week and is up 33 cents in the past month.  Attala County has already crossed the $4 mark, with an average price this morning of $4.03, the highest in the local area.
