• Bill passes in Senate that avoids strike of group home workers

    HARTFORD — Senate passed a bill Saturday afternoon that will raise wages non-profit group home workers, which prevented a worker strike that was scheduled for May 7.
    The bill would provide a $14.75 minimum wage and a 5% increase for workers above $14.75 effective January 1, 2019.  This wage increase will cover 18,000 union and non-union workers who care for the disabled.

  • Fatal crash in Kent under police investigation

    KENT— A head on crash in Kent Friday evening ended with one woman dead.
    The crash occurred on Skiff Mountain Road as one car was heading north and the other was heading south.  Deanna Lynn Silvemali, 22, was a passenger who was ejected from the car after the collision. Police said she was declared dead at the scene.
    Two other people involved in the crash were transported to hospitals via Lifestar while the other person was transported via ambulance.

  • All East Haven Police Officers involved North Haven explosion released from hospital

    EAST HAVEN — The fifth and final East Haven Officer was released from the hospital Saturday evening.
    Officials said that the officer is resting comfortably at home with family and wanted to thank everyone for their continued support during such an emotional time.
    At least nine officers were injured when a barn exploded behind a house in North Haven, while police were negotiating with a man after a violent domestic incident. One person was found dead in the burned building.

    OLD LYME — Interstate 95 reopened Saturday afternoon following a serious motorcycle accident.
    State police tweeted around 3 p.m. that northbound and southbound exits were temporarily closed because Lifestar was landing at the scene.
    Police said that drivers should expect further lane closures and delays after Lifestar departs. No updates have been given on the injured.

    GRISWOLD – State Police Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime are investigating after a deceased body was discovered in the woods near Pachaug Pond in Griswold.

    LISBON – Connecticut State Police have identified a man who died in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon.
    Witnesses told police that Rayshawn Cooper of Norwich passed them at a high rate of speed on Route 169 in Lisbon.  He then tried to negotiate a curve near the intersection of Blissville Road, but lost control of the motorcycle, crashed and was ejected from the bike.

    WILLISTON, N.D. — Authorities say a flight attendant accused of disrupting a flight from Denver to North Dakota was drunk.
    Police in Williston, in northwestern North Dakota, say they received a call from airport officials before the Trans State Airlines flight landed Thursday afternoon that an occupant was intoxicated and had a medical condition. Police determined that the person was drunk and forwarded the investigation to the FBI.

    HARTFORD — The Connecticut House of Representatives has narrowly approved legislation that creates a process that could eventually lead to a new, $500 million casino in Connecticut, possibly in Bridgeport.
