  • Women pleads guilty to killing son for wetting the bed

    RAPID CITY, S.D. — A women accused of beating her 2-year-old son to death after he wet his bed has pleaded guilty.
    According to the New York Post, 30-year-old Katrina Shangreaux, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 2-year-old Kylen Shangreaux in July 2016.
    Katrina has reached a deal with prosecutors but still could face life in prison. She will remain in jail until her sentencing, which wasn’t immediately scheduled.

  • MGM announces slew of job listings in Springfield

    SPRINGFIELD — The company building a casino resort in Springfield is looking for many more employees in a new hiring push.
    MGM Resorts International announced Monday that it is adding postings for more than 1,000 jobs on its website.
    The entertainment complex is looking for food service workers, electrical technicians, carpenters and painters.
    The resort will eventually employ 3,000 people. The company had previously listed 1,400 jobs.

    STORRS — UConn forward Azura Stevens is giving up her last year of eligibility and entering the WNBA draft.
    The 6-foot-6 junior transfer from Duke says she will miss UConn, but it has been a lifelong dream to play in the WNBA. UConn coach Geno Auriemma says the school will support Stevens “in any way we can.”
    Stevens averaged 14.7 points and 7.5 rebounds during her one year at UConn. The Huskies’ season ended Friday night with a loss to Notre Dame in the NCAA semifinals.

    The city of Asheville, North Carolina, has released “disturbing, difficult to watch” videos from nine body-worn cameras related to the beating and tasing of a man who was suspected of jaywalking, the city said.
    “This incident has created a loss of trust within the community, particularly among people of color. The City of Asheville understands that there is substantial work to do to restore the public’s trust,” the city said.
