• Indian Tribes Push Ahead On Plans For East Windsor Casino

    EAST WINDSOR, Conn. (WTIC and AP) – Leaders of Connecticut’s two federally recognized Indian tribes are pushing ahead with plans to build a casino, despite delays in federal approvals.
    The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes took the first step Monday toward demolishing an old movie theater, the planned site of their jointly owned gambling facility.

    DANBURY, Conn. (AP) – The trial of a Connecticut man accused of molesting a 3-year-old girl has ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach averdict.
    Prosecutors say they intend to retry 36-year-old Rony Ortega on charges including sexual assault.
    The News-Times reports that the mistrial was declared last week after the jury foreman told the judge that deliberations had become argumentative and one jurorwas not letting the others speak.

    GUILFORD, Conn. (WTIC and AP) – Coast Guard officials say a barge capsized in Connecticut, killing one and sending several others into the water.
    Officials say eight people were onboard the barge when it capsized around 2:30 p.m. Saturday near the Guilford Yacht Club. Seven people were rescued, and rescue divers joined the search when it was determined one person was missing.
