    EAST WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) _ Two Connecticut tribes that are proposing a jointly-run casino in East Windsor are planning to participate in a demolition ceremony in the town.
    Mohegan Tribal Chairman Kevin Brown and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler also plan to make an announcement at Monday’s event marking the demolition of the former Showcase Cinemas, the proposed site of the $300 million casino.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut lawmakers have set a public hearing on two dozen health-related bills, ranging from seat belt use to tanning beds. The Public Health Committee hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

  • Overnight fire engulfs Tolland home

    A 2-alarm fire has driven a Tolland family from their home.
    Firefighters responded to the call shortly after midnight, and firefighters arrived six minutes later… but found the home on Crestwood Road engulfed in flames. They immediately called for a second alarm and crews from Vernon and Ellington also responded.
    The residents were able to escape the fire, although at least one person was taken to be treated for smoke inhalation.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn.   (WTIC News) — Emergency officials in New Haven said a woman was injured and six others were displaced after a fire broke out at a home on Ellsworth Avenue Saturday night.
    The fire impacted two buildings next to each other, officials said. It occurred across the street from the city’s Ellsworth station.

    GUILFORD, Conn.  (WTIC News) — Guilford Police say a man has died after a barge capsized near the Guilford Yacht Club on Saturday.
    Rescue divers from the Guilford Fire Department conducted a search of the area, after it was determined that one man aboard went missing once the barge overturned.
    The divers located a 32-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
