    HARTFORD — Retiring Connecticut Chief Justice Chase Rogers has been hired by a large East Coast law firm.
    Day Pitney announced Monday that Rogers will join the firm’s Hartford office as a litigation partner and appellate practice group member on March 19.
    Monday also was the day Rogers’ retirement as chief justice took effect.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s final budget proposal includes a range of tax changes, including a higher levy on cigarettes, a25-cent-per-bottle deposit on wine and liquor and elimination of the $200 property tax credit against the income tax.
    Those propositions are in addition to the gradual 7-cent-per-gallon gas tax increase and statewide tolling Malloy proposed last week.

    NEW YORK — The markets plunged Monday, with the Dow falling nearly 1,600 points in the largest intraday point decline ever.
    The selloff knocked the Dow down as much as 6.3%.

  • Ex-dentist pleads guilty to illegally prescribing drugs

    HARTFORD— A former dentist is facing a long prison term after pleading guilty to illegally prescribing oxycodone.
    The Hartford Courant reports that 48-year-old Peter Delaney agreed to a 15-year prison term with six to serve and the remainder suspended for five years of probation after pleading guilty last week to prescribing drugs that were not medically necessary. Formal sentencing is scheduled for April 4. The West Hartford man is also barred from practicing and must pay a $50,000 fine.
