  • General Assembly Powers Through Medicare Savings Plan Veto

    (CBS Connecticut) — By overwhelming majorities, the General Assembly today over-rode a veto from the governor, and restored funding to a program that helps poor seniors and disabled people pay Medicare health coverage premiums.
    The funding runs through the end of the current fiscal year, at the end of June.

    GUILFORD -- Police said a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot in Guilford Wednesday.
    Guilford police said when they arrived they found two teenage boys in a home. Police said the 15-year-old suffered a gun shot wound and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was then pronounced dead.
    Police said the victim is a freshman at Guilford High School.
    Police said there were no parents at the home during the time of the incident. At this time, police said they are not releasing any names.

    ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl were left alone in a parked car outside a Missouri casino while the adult who left them there went inside to gamble.
    According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident unfolded Monday night around 7:30 p.m.
    Casino security noticed the kids alone in the car within three minutes. They kept an eye on the vehicle and tracked the man down within 20 minutes, according to KTVI.

    GALVESTON, Texas — Police released a photo Tuesday of a still-unidentified boy whose dead body washed ashore three months ago in Galveston, Texas.
    Investigators made the unusual move in hopes of generating new leads after hundreds of other tips have not provided answers. Previously, a police sketch artist drew a portrait of the boy that was widely released in news outlets, on billboards from Texas to Kentucky and through national missing children’s foundations.

    Ron Van Winkle has been appointed chief operating officer for Hartford.

  • Dog Quarantined After Attacking Llama At Connecticut Farm

    LEBANON, Conn. (WTIC and AP) – Officials say a dog has been temporarily quarantined after attacking a llama at a Connecticut farm.
    Animal control officials say the llama was attacked Tuesday at a farm in Lebanon.
    The farm owners say the llama suffered puncture wounds near the ear and face. The animal needed stitches but is expected to recover.
    The dog was overdue for a rabies vaccine. It will be quarantined for about two weeks before being returned to its owner.
