    HARTFORD — Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has vetoed the medicare savings program that would’ve restored $54 million to helps seniors pay for Medicare-related expenses.
    Malloy originally warned the General Assembly not to pass the legislation, arguing it would worsen Connecticut’s budget woes. But lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the bill Monday, saying they needed to assure thousands of affected seniors and people with disabilities the funding would be restored.

    GUILFORD — Five men were arrested in a sting operation for attempting to set up sex dates with minors.
    Police from multiple jurisdictions  announced the arrest of the men who had conversed online with a police officer posing as a minor.
    The arrests were recorded as part of a documentary by the Veterans 4 Child Rescue Foundation.

    WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump asked the White House doctor to perform a cognitive exam during his physical last week, despite the doctor’s determination that such testing wasn’t necessary.
    “I have no concerns about his cognitive ability,” Dr. Ronny Jackson told reporters on Tuesday.

    WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say 26-year-old professional boxer Luis Rosa Jr. has been killed in a car crash in Connecticut.
    Police in West Haven say Rosa was driving south in a Honda that crossed the center line and collided with an Acura traveling in the opposite direction around 2 a.m. Sunday. Two other people suffered serious injuries.

    O’Riordan was found dead Monday morning at a London hotel. Police initially called the death “unexplained,” but said Tuesday that nothing suspicious had been found. The case is being passed to a coroner to determine the cause of death.

    ESSEX — Flooding and ice jams continue to plague parts of the Connecticut River where the Coast Guard has been called in to break up the ice.
    Locals say these are some of the worst ice jams they have ever seen.

    DARIEN  — Police have arrested two 19-year-olds for selling drugs to  high school students via social media.The Connecticut Post reports police arrested the men Saturday in Darien during a sting involving an undercover officer.

    HARTFORD — Two cats were left inside a cardboard box on the front step of the Job Corps Monday.
    Security at 100 William Short Campbell told police there was box with two cats inside near their entrance.

    PLAINVILLE, Mass. — Massachusetts’ lone casino is enjoying a rise in gambling revenues.
    The state Gambling Commission reported Tuesday that Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville generated $12.7 million in gross revenues from its slot machines last month.
    That brought the slot parlor and harness racing track’s total gross revenues from gambling to $164.8 million in 2017, or a roughly 6 percent increase from the facility’s $155 million in gross gambling revenues in 2016.

    BETHESDA, Md. — Authorities say part of a ceiling has collapsed at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Washington suburbs.
    The Washington Post reports that Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer says a ceiling under construction near the emergency entrance of the Bethesda center partially collapsed on Monday. No injuries were reported.

    COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A Danish inventor, Peter Madsen, has been charged with murdering the Swedish journalist Kim Wall on his submarine, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
    Madsen has been charged with premeditated murder in addition to dismemberment and “sexual relations other than intercourse of a particularly dangerous nature.”
    Wall’s dismembered body was found in the sea off the Danish coast after Wall visited Madsen on his vessel in August last year to interview him.
