  • Cranberries Lead Singer O’Riordan Dead At 46

    LONDON (AP) – Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries, has died.
    She was 46.
    Publicist Lindsey Holmes says O’Riordan died suddenly Monday in London, where she was recording.
    The cause of death wasn’t immediately available.
    Holmes says the singer’s family is “devastated” by the news.
    The Limerick band became international stars in the 1990s with hits including “Zombie” and “Linger.”

  • Shepaug River Cuts New Channel After Ice Jam

    (CBS Connecticut) — In Roxbury, an ice jam on the Shepaug River caused the river to back up, and move its channel.
    The river now runs through a farm field. The new channel has 6-foot banks and has replaced roughly 2-acres of pasture at the Bronson family’s farm.
    Roxbury Emergency management Bernie Meehan said the ice jam is more than a quarter of a mile long, and more than 10-feet high.

  • Crews respond to hazmat in Essex at chemical plant

    ESSEX — Crews from several towns are fighting a fire at a chemical plant Monday afternoon.
    Essex First Selectman Norman Needleman said the fire was a result of a chemical reaction in a glass container in the lab. He said all employees had been evacuated and no one was hurt.
    The call came in around 1:30 pm. for Nala Engineering, 85 Westbrook Rd.

    At least 27 people were killed Monday in a double suicide bombing in central Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health.
    In addition to those killed, about 100 people were wounded when two bombers detonated suicide vests at a square in the Iraqi capital, officials said.
    A large crowd of laborers usually gather at the square each morning searching for day jobs — and the number of casualties is expected to rise.
