    HARTFORD -- The flu virus has reached nearly every corner of the nation.
    Influenza activity is widespread in all states except Hawaii (and the District of Columbia), according to the weekly flu report released Friday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
    "Flu is everywhere in the US right now," said Dr. Dan Jernigan, director of the CDC's influenza branch. "This is the first year we've had the entire continental US at the same level (of flu activity) at the same time."

    JACKSON, Miss.  — Mississippi’s corrections department says Edgar Ray Killen, a former Ku Klux Klan leader who was convicted in the 1964 ‘Mississippi Burning’ slayings of three civil rights workers, has died in prison at the age of 92.
    The part-time preacher and lumber mill operator was 80 when a Neshoba County jury convicted him in 2005 of three counts of manslaughter.

  • UConn Hires Chicago Bears’ Dunn As Offensive Coordinator

    STORRS, Conn. (WTIC and AP) – UConn’ football coach Randy Edsall has hired former Chicago Bears assistant coach John Dunn to be his new offensive coordinator.
    Dunn replaces Rhett Lashlee, who left after just one year on the job to take the same position at SMU.
    The school says Dunn, who will also coach the quarterbacks, agreed to a two-year contract worth $300,000 per year.

    NEW HAVEN — New Haven police said a man was shot at a gas station.
    They said the man was shot outside an Exxon Gas Station at 775 Whalley Avenue just after 3 a.m.
    The victim, Kenneth Cooper, 35, of Waterbury, was taken to the hospital by a woman he was with, according to police there, and died shortly after arriving.

    NEEDHAM, Mass. (WCVB) — The death of a mother in Needham is being blamed on the flu.
    Jenny Ching, 51, and her entire family thought she was just battling a bad cold last week when she went to the hospital last Wednesday. Two days later, she died.
