• $4.3-billion In Transportation Projects Delayed

    (CBS Connecticut) — Governor Dannel Malloy today announced that $4.3-billion in transportation projects have been delayed, because of a lack of money.
    Malloy wants lawmakers to replenish the state’s transportation fund, so the hundreds of projects can get back on schedule.
    “The problems in Fairfield County and in New Haven, and the problems that will play out in Hartford and Waterbury as well will cripple our economy,” Malloy said, referring to highway congestion delays.

    BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) – The case of a former Connecticut college student accused of lying about being raped by two university football players is headedto trial.
    The Connecticut Post reports 19-year-old Nikki Yovino rejected a plea deal Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
    Prosecutors offered a two-year prison sentence and a judge offered one-year sentence.
    The judge set a trial date of Feb. 21.

    MERIDEN —  Police said a dead dog was found in a box Tuesday night.
    Meriden police said around 9:35 p.m., they responded to the intersection of Welles Terrace and Broadvale Road for a deceased canine that was found in a box.
    “The deceased canine was a female pit bull and it was found by an area resident that had been out walking their dog,” police said.
    Police said the dog showed no obvious signs of trauma and it was confirmed to be deceased at the time of the officer

    NORMAN, Okla. – Drivers were told to avoid an area of Norman following a report of an ‘active shooter,’ according to KFOR.
    On Wednesday around 2:40 p.m., officials with the Norman Police Department announced that they were working an ‘active shooter situation’ in the 2200 block of Industrial Blvd.
    A short time later, officials said that one suspect was in custody, and one victim was being treated. However, the extent of the victim’s injuries were not known.

    HARTFORD — A tax deduction for hundreds of homeowners dealing with crumbling foundations may not last very long.
    In a letter to Connecticut lawmakers, the IRS confirms that qualified taxpayers who paid to repair their foundations in 2017 or in some prior years will be able to get a deduction as a casualty loss on their 2017 returns.
    However, in light of the new tax laws, it’s not clear yet if the deduction will be available for homeowners who do their repairs in 2018 or beyond.

    HARTFORD -- The State of Connecticut is offering $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the homicide case of Ricardo Rivera. Rivera was fatally shot in Hartford on October 21st, 2015.

    BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — He proudly served his country, but when it came time to bury him, a Navy veteran's father said the government wouldn't grant his son's mother a visa to attend his funeral.
