  • Census Figures Show Connecticut Grew By 499 Souls Last Year

    MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s population isn’t exactly booming — the Nutmeg State gained fewer than 500 people last year.
    That’s according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau figures released this week.
    The Middletown Press reports that Connecticut’s population in 2017 stood at 3,588,184, up from 3,587,685 — a gain of 499 residents.
    As modest as that is, it still represents a reversal. Between 2015 and 2016, the state lost 14,434 people.

    AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Desean Murray and Mustapha Heron each scored 13 points and a balanced effort led Auburn to an 89-64 win over UConn on Saturday.

    Police said the incident happened on Friday, at the local AT&T  store located on Whalley Avenue.

    City spokesperson Av Harris says about 10 o’clock this morning a male was shot at the corner of Maple and Kossuth Streets. That’s on the city’s East Side. Harris says in a statement that the victim fell into a small deli and market on that corner after he was shot, and was dead when first responders arrived on the scene.  Police are not releasing the victim’s identity yet.

    NEW HAVEN — Newly released documents show nearly $800,000 was paid to settle lawsuits filed against the Enfield Police Department and former officer Matthew Worden.
    The Hartford Courant reports 10 lawsuits were settled for a total of $792,500. All lawsuits involving Worden have been settled. Worden had been a patrol officer with Enfield for 10 years and was a K9 officer. He was fired by the department.

    (EAST HAVEN,Conn./WTIC News) – An East Haven Police Officer responding to an emergency call was involved in a motor vehicle accident shortly after 6:30 Friday evening.It happened at the intersection of High Street, Laurel Street and the Interstate 95 North on ramp.
    Both the officer and the only person in the other vehicle were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
