    NEW YORK  — Papa John’s says its founder John Schnatter will step down as CEO next month, about two months after he publicly criticized the NFL leadership over national anthem protests by football players.
    The company said Thursday that Schnatter remains chairman but be replaced as chief executive by Chief Operating Officer Steve Ritchie on Jan. 1.

    NEW YORK  — The NFL has told its officials not to use index cards or any other paper to aid in measurements.
    In last Sunday night’s Cowboys-Raiders game, veteran referee Gene Steratore tried to slide what appeared to be an index card between the tip of the ball and the end of the chain while measuring for a first down. When the card didn’t slide through, Steratore signaled a first down for Dallas. He said he had decided it was a first down before the odd measurement.

  • Connecticut jobless rate worsens slightly, job growth lags

    HARTFORD — A new report shows Connecticut lost 3,500 jobs in November, slowing job growth in the state.
    Thursday’s monthly Department of Labor employment report shows Connecticut’s unemployment rate is now 4.6 percent, up from 4.5 percent in October.
    Andy Condon, director of the agency’s Office of Research, acknowledges job growth in 2017 “has slowed significantly since peaking in the second quarter.” Over the past 12 months, Connecticut has grown 5,000 jobs.

    STAMFORD — An 82-year-old Stamford woman has been charged with assault after an October accident in a parking lot that left one person injured and 12 cars damaged.

    JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WTIC and AP) – Authorities say a man accused in the death of his 9-month-old child has been extradited to North Carolina.
    The Jacksonville Police Department said in a news release issued to local media outlets that 21-year-old TraQuan Curtis returned to the city on Wednesday.

    WOODBRIDGE — Woodbridge Police are searching for a suspect after police said numerous packages were stolen from homes on Wednesday.

    BETHESDA, Md. — Police in Maryland say there was so much alcohol being consumed at a fraternity party that the air inside the off-campus home registered a .01 on a breathalyzer, according to WJLA.

    Crews were staged at the Salmon River Boat Launch in East Haddam.
