    BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A Connecticut man convicted of killing and dismembering his girlfriend has asked for a new trial, citing possible juror misconduct.
    A lawyer for Jermaine Richards made the request Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 19.
    A jury convicted Richards of murder in September in the killing of 20-year-old Alyssiah Wiley, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University. Two previous trials ended with deadlocked juries.

  • Hamden police: Man’s bag of cheeseburgers stolen in armed robbery 

    HAMDEN  — Connecticut police are looking for the suspect in the theft of a bag of cheeseburgers.Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith says the 23-year-old victim was walking on the street carrying the bag of cheeseburgers Saturday night.
    The New Haven Register reports he was then held up by an armed man who fled on foot with the victim’s cheeseburgers.

    HARTFORD  — An investigation has found that the death of an autistic Hartford teenager from malnutrition was preventable and there were problems with the state child welfare agency.The state Child Advocate's Office released a report Tuesday on the February death of 17-year-old Matthew Tirado, of Hartford. When he died, the 5-foot-9-inch-tall (1.75 meters) Matthew weighed less than 90 pounds (41 kilograms).
    Police charged Matthew's mother with manslaughter and cruelty to persons.

    MORGANTON, N.C. – A North Carolina woman whose 3-year-old son froze to death earlier this year pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in court Monday, WSOC reports.
    Jamie Basinger, 24, faced one count each of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse, but prosecutors dropped the felony abuse count as part of a plea deal.

  • Police ID Florida Man Found Shot To Death In Apartment

    NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Police have identified a Florida man who was found shot to death last weekend in a Connecticut apartment.
    New London police responded to a report of a shooting at the basement apartment Saturday afternoon. Twenty-one-year-old Quvonte Gray was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
    Gray was pronounced dead at the scene.

    WATERBURY — Police are searching for a suspect in connection with an attempted murder who they consider to be armed and dangerous.
    Police said Levar S. Roach, 18.  An arrest warrant for Roach charges him with:

    Illegal discharge of a firearm
    Reckless endangerment 1st degree

    (Waterbury, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Waterbury police are investigating an apparent hit and run from this morning.
    They say around 6:30, a pedestrian was struck in the area of Nottingham Terrace and Cooke Street, the vehicle fleeing the scene.
    The 75-year-old female was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital with a broken femur, hip and skull fracture and is currently in the intensive care unit.
    No description of the vehicle has been released.

    WATERBURY — A 75-year-old woman was seriously injured in a hit and run crash Tuesday morning.
    Police said the woman was hit near Nottingham Terrace and Cooke Street around 6:30 a.m. and the vehicle had fled the scene. The woman was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of a broken femur, a broken hip and a skull fracture.  She is currently in ICU. Police are investigating the accident.

    Police confirm that the victim as Quvonte Andre Gray, 21 of Florida. Gray frequently visited New London for extended periods of times.

    NEW LONDON — New London police identified the victim of a homicide on Sunday.
    Robert Pomerleau, 49, of New London, died from stab wounds.
    Police  arrested Patrick McInerney, 43, of New London, in connection with the stabbing.

    NEW LONDON – New London Police have announced the arrest of a man accused in two sexual assaults in the city.
    In collaboration with Waterford Police and the State’s Attorney’s office, police arrested Monte White, 34.
    Police said an investigation and DNA evidence linked White to a sexual assault and home invasion on October 29th, and a similar sexual assault on November 29th.

    The report states there were several red flags in the case 17-year-old Matthew Tirado prior to his death.
