    HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – Revised estimates show Connecticut’s current budget deficit has grown large enough to potentially trigger a mid-year, budget-cutting plan from Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

    (New Haven, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has denied a stay of deportation to a New Haven woman.
    Miriam Martinez is now expected to be deported back to her native Guatemala.
    Martinez had sought the stay, citing that she is the primary caregiver to her daughter, who has Type 1 diabetes.
    She came to this country 25 years ago, she says to escape political unrest in her homeland.

    A Baltimore police detective was pronounced dead on Thursday, a day after a gunman shot him in the head, police Commissioner Kevin Davis said.
    Homicide Detective Sean Suiter, an 18-year veteran with the Baltimore Police Department, was investigating a killing Wednesday afternoon in west Baltimore when he observed a man exhibiting suspicious behaviors, Davis said.

  • Police ID Man Killed In Woodstock Crash

    (Woodstock, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – State Police, Monday, identified the man who was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday in Woodstock.
    Evan Oshaughnessy, 29, of Woodstock was pronounced dead after the 2003 Dodge Dakota he was driving struck a tree and caught fire along Route 171 near County Road, said police.
    The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m.
    Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call Troop D in Danielson at 860-779-4900.

    MERIDEN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) — A former Meriden police officer who pushed a handcuffed suspect who fell and fractured his skull in a police department jail cell in 2010 has settled a brutality lawsuit.
    Former officer Evan Cossette, son of Police Chief Jeffry Cossette, settled with Meriden resident Pedro Temich, according to court records filed last week in federal court in Hartford.
    Terms were not disclosed. Lawyers in the case declined to comment Monday.
