    DANBURY --  Two Danbury firefighters have died during an active incident, both at the same fire.
    On Tuesday, one of the firefighter's sons was sworn in as deputy chief. Firefighter Joe Halas who died along with Lt. Butch Melody on Osbourne Street in 1982, had his legacy live on through his son, also named Joseph Halas who was promoted to deputy chief.

  • CT State Supreme Court hears appeal in Sandy Hook shooting lawsuit

    NEWTOWN --  A lawyer for relatives of some Newtown school massacre victims has asked the Connecticut Supreme Court to reinstate a lawsuit against gun maker Remington Arms, saying a rifle made by the company and used in the shooting was too dangerous to sell to the public.
    The parents of a child who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school massacre say they have faith the company that made the military-style rifle used in the shooting will be held responsible.

    WWF Indonesia said 10 whales were stranded on Monday, seven of whom were returned to the water thanks to the efforts of the navy and locals.

    BRIDGEPORT — A man authorities said was spotted bicycling through Bridgeport carrying an AR-15 assault-style rifle has been held on $50,000 bond.
    The Connecticut Post reports that 49-year-old Louis Varvella was arraigned Monday on multiple charges including breach of peace and possession of an assault rifle.
    Police received multiple calls on Thursday morning reporting a man on a bicycle carrying a weapon.
    Officers caught up with Varvella, a bouncer at a city strip club, outside a florist.

    CELINA, Ohio – Walmart has responded to a viral video that shows carts of food being thrown out at a store in Ohio, according to WJW.
    Gary Joe Ahrns posted a Facebook Live video on November 6 outside of the store.  He showed video of the carts, many of which were filled with food including milk and ham.

  • EgyptAir Selects Pratt Engines For Aircraft Order

    DUBAI (CBS Connecticut) – EgyptAir has selected Pratt and Whitney’s PurePower geared turbofan engine to power up to 24 Bombardier CS300 aircraft.
    The deal, announced at the Dubai Airshow Tuesday, includes 12 passenger jets, with purchase rights for 12 more.
    Pratt, based in East Hartford, says the engine can reduce fuel consumption by up to 16 percent.
    Deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – It took the Connecticut Senate just about two minutes to make some fixes to the recently passed bipartisan budget.
    The Senate voted 34-0 on Tuesday in favor of the bill, which, among other things, makes various changes to a tax on hospitals that provides the state and hospitals with key federal reimbursement funds.
