    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Lawyers are set to ask the Connecticut Supreme Court to reinstate a wrongful death lawsuit against the maker of the rifle used in the 2012 Newtown school massacre.
    Justices are scheduled to hear arguments Tuesday in an appeal by a survivor and relatives of nine people killed in the shooting.

    EAST RUTHERFORD NJ –  Two Connecticut high school marching bands got high marks in the U.S. Bands Open Class National Championships Saturday night.
    Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band was a close second with an overall score of 97.613, only .162 out of first place. They were also awarded Best Percussion, Best Color Guard and Best Visual according to their Facebook page.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut’s insurance commissioner says U.S. veterans applying for licenses to work in Connecticut’s insurance industry are eligible for reimbursement of their licensing exam fees.
    Commissioner Katharine L. Wade says the Connecticut Insurance Department is participating in an initiative launched by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Under the program, the VA reimburses exam fees for 17 licenses.

    HARTFORD — Connecticut officials say they’re able to reopen applications for a state-run child care subsidy program that helps low-income working families.
    New applications for “Care 4 Kids” were closed to most families in August 2016 after revised federal requirements increased the state’s cost to run the program, which is funded with state and federal money.
    There are currently 5,769 families on a waiting list for the subsidy.

  • Firefighters responded to large fire at forge in Southington

    SOUTHINGTON — Multiple Fire Departments have responded to a large fire at 355 Atwater Street.
    Firefighters responded to calls of the fire right before 2:10 p.m.
    Police dispatched said that the building is a forge. Police could not say if the building was open or closed at the time of the fire.

    WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ A former Connecticut lawmaker and prominent businessman who was critically injured after he was hit by a car while putting up campaign signs has been released from the hospital.
    The Republican-American reports that 68-year-old Selim Noujaim was allowed to return home Saturday after almost two weeks in the hospital.

    SOUTHINGTON — Police are investigating a two car crash that happened Saturday afternoon in front of the ESPN building.
