• Teachers Union Drops Lawsuit Against The State

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut’s largest teachers union and four municipalities are dropping their lawsuit against the state, now that a budget is in place.
    The Connecticut Education Association, the city of Torrington and towns of Brooklyn, Stratford and Plainfield, had sought an injunction last month to stop Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy from using his limited executive spending authority to cut $557 million from the majority of Connecticut school districts.

  • Power Generation Rates To Increase

    NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Connecticut utility regulators have approved increases to the electricity generation rates offered by Eversource and United Illuminating.
    Effective January 1, 2018, Eversource’s residential generation rate will change from 8.01 cents per kilowatt-hour to 9.08 cents. UI’s residential generation rate will change from 7.6 cents to 9.66 cents. The rates are based on auctions held earlier this year.

    BERLIN — Eversource has submitted its proposed winter electricity prices to the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PUTRA) Friday.     FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) – A military judge has found that Bowe Bergdahl should serve no prison time for endangering his comrades by walking off his Afghanistan post.
    The judge also gave Bergdahl a dishonorable discharge, reduced his rank to private and said he must forfeit pay equal to $1,000 per month for 10 months.
    The judge made no other comments.
    Bergdahl appeared tense, grimaced and clenched his jaw.
