• Hartford Police Collect Guns, Medications In Separate Events

    HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Hartford police were involved in two separate events, collecting unwanted guns and prescription medications Saturday.
    At police headquarters, police collected more than 42 pounds of unwanted medications in a semi-annual event sponsored by the DEA. Lt. Brandon O’Brien says the turnout was greater than prior events. He adds, that unwanted medications can be turned in any time at the Hartford Public Safety Complex, where there’s a secure collect

  • Bristol Cop Charged With DUI

    BRISTOL, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A Bristol police officer has been charged with operating under the influence after he was found sleeping in a vehicle on School Street in the city early Saturday, said police.
    Police say Officer Brian Bonati, 32, who was off-duty at the time, failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. Bonati was in his personal vehicle at the time, said authorities.

  • Route 8 South In Derby Reopened After Crash

    DERBY, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A truck rollover closed Route 8 southbound in Derby late Saturday morning.
    State police say the crash, in the area of Exit 16, was reported just after 11:30 a.m. One person suffered life-threatening injuries, said troopers.
    Life Star helicopter was requested to the scene.
    All lanes of the highway were reopened shortly after 4 p.m., according to state police. Some of the Exit 16 ramps remained closed.

    The Connecticut Post reports Superior Court Judge Maureen Dennis on Friday rejected accelerated rehabilitation for former Sacred Heart University student Nikki Yovino. If successfully completed, the program would have led to a dismissal of the charges without requiring a guilty plea.
