    (Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – The state comptroller is releasing new figures on Connecticut’s deficit for the current fiscal year.
    Kevin Lembo says the state is facing a 93-point-8-million dollar shortfall for the end of the fiscal year 2018.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – A Haitian man who federal prosecutors say was the ringleader of an auto insurance scam involving as many as 50 staged car crashes in southeastern Connecticut has been sentenced to four years in prison.

  • Bristol Police ID Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash

    BRISTOL, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Bristol police have identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon on Broad Street.
    Corey Natal, 36, of Manchester was thrown from his bike in the area of 117 Broad Street just before 3 p.m., and was pronounced dead a short time later at Bristol Hospital.
    The crash remains under investigation. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to call them at 860-584-3036.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – Organizations in six Connecticut cities and towns will receive a total of $750,000 in federal grant money aimed at preventing addiction among young people.
    The grants were announced Friday by the state’s congressional delegation. Each organization will receive $125,000 through the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The groups are based in Torrington, Enfield, East Haddam, Naugatuck, Durham and Bridgeport.

    WEST SPRINGFIELD  – Record crowds took in all the sights, sounds and food at this year’s Big E. The regional state fair, which closed for the season on Sunday, set a new record for number of visitors attending.  The Fair’s all-time high attendance figure hit 1,525,553.     NEW YORK –  New York  City saying goodbye to the old Kosciusko bridge. The city built a new Kosciusko bridge, which means it was time for the old one to come crashing down.     NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A Connecticut business owner faces up to three years in prison for failing to pay more than $300,000 in taxes.
    The U.S. Attorney’s office says Robert Kehayias, of Old Saybrook, pleaded guilty Friday in federal court in New Haven to filing a false tax return. He faces a fine of up to $680,000, back taxes, interest and penalties when he’s sentenced in January.
