    MIAMI (AP) – Giancarlo Stanton hit his major league-leading 56th homer and drove in three runs as the Miami Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the NewYork Mets by winning 9-2 Wednesday.
    Stanton connected in the eighth inning for his 30th home run since the All-Star break. The Marlins have 10 games left.
    Stanton also hit a run-scoring single and has 120 RBIs. He made a fine catch, too, against the right field fence to rob Asdrubal Cabrera.

  • Malloy: Budget Unlikely By October 1; Education Payments To Towns Would Be Cut

    (CBS Connecticut) — Governor Dannel Malloy today said the state will probably not have a budget in time to distribute education funding to towns on October 1.
    “It is an important date which we are highly unlikely to hit,” Malloy said. “Every day that we don’t have a workable budget is a failure.”
    The lack of a budget at the start of the month would trigger cuts in local education funding that the governor ordered as part of his stopgap spending plan.

    HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut have arrested a man they say was driving a stolen vehicle with his toddler son inside.
    Police say 21-year-old Gamalier Estrada III, of New Haven, also drove the vehicle in reverse at a “reckless rate of speed” and almost struck an officer in an attempt to escape a traffic stop in Hamden on Monday.
    He also allegedly left his son the vehicle when he tried to flee on foot before returning for the boy.
