  • Delay In Probation Ruling In UConn Death

    ROCKVILLE, Conn. (AP) – A judge has delayed rulings on whether to grant probation programs to six University of Connecticut students charged withalcohol crimes related to the death of a fellow student who was accidentally run over by a fire department vehicle.
    The students’ lawyers submitted documents supporting their applications for accelerated rehabilitation Thursday in Rockville Superior Court.
    Judge Carl Taylor continued the cases to June 29.

    (Farmington, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Police in Farmington are charging a Vernon man with driving a box truck into a building this week.
    They say 48-year-old Steven Myska did suffer a medical emergency in the crash on Tuesday on Route 4 in town.
    He’s been cited for failure to drive in the proper lane.
    Myska’s vehicle slammed into a building containing a Subway sandwich shop.
    No other injuries were reported.

    (Milford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – In Milford police say they’re investigating a crash that left a motorcyclist and driver with injuries.
    They say late Wednesday afternoon, a vehicle was turning south on to North Street from Sigwin Drive.
    Around the same time, officers say the cyclist was traveling north on North Street, approaching Sigwin Drive when the two collided.

    STORRS, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – At least two buildings on the University of Connecticut campus in Storrs were evacuated late Thursday morning after a construction crew hit a natural gas line with a backhoe.
    The excavator was working to clear the scene of a fire that burned down a historic landscaping barn May 8 on the eastern end of campus when the mishap occurred around 11 a.m., said university spokesperson Stephanie Reitz.

    GLASTONBURY, Conn (CBS Connecticut) – Glastonbury police have arrested a Hartford man for allegedly causing, on purpose, a chemical spill at his former employer.
    The spill of sodium hydroxide, at Connecticut Galvanizing on Commerce Street, occurred in 2015. Police say Manuel Sastre, 54, had been terminated from the company a few months prior to the spill.
