    Authorities say Bridgeport Officer James Boulay fatally shot Jayson Negron and wounded a 21-year-old May 9. Police say Boulay opened fire when the car nearly ran over him.

    Pedestrian Dies of Injuries After Being Hit by Amtrak Train
    BRANFORD, Conn. (AP) — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train near a stop in Branford.
    An Amtrak spokesman says an Acela Express train from Boston to New York struck the person on Tuesday afternoon. The individual, whose identity was not immediately released, died of injuries sustained in the collision.
    The Hartford Courant reports that there were 171 passengers on the train. No one on the train was hurt.

    East Hartford Warrant Sweep Nets Dozens Of Arrests
    EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – East Hartford police say a multi-day warrant sweep has netted dozens of arrests.
    Police say many of the 43 suspects rounded up were wanted on felony charges.
    Twenty-four of the arrests occurred Tuesday morning, with teams of police and parole and probation officers fanning out around town and rounding up suspects.

  • Fake Tax Checks To Land Store Owner In Prison

    MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) – A Manchester convenience store owner has pleaded guilty to illegally cashing 126 false federal income-tax refund checks totaling more than $787,000.
    The U.S. Attorney’s office says 50-year-old Asafak Bhura pleaded guilty last week to attempting to interfere with the administration of internal revenue laws.
    Court records show Bhura cashed the checks for a person he knew only by his first name.
    Bhura also deposited checks into his personal bank accounts.
