  DENVER (AP) – The U.S. Supreme Court asked the Justice Department on Monday to weigh in on New Mexico’s lawsuit against Colorado over a mine waste spill that polluted rivers in both states and in Utah.
  The court asked the Office of the Solicitor General to submit the Obama administration’s views on the lawsuit. The solicitor general represents the executive branch in Supreme Court cases.

  CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) – The funeral has been scheduled for a Colorado State Patrol trooper killed on Interstate 25 on Friday.

  COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) – Authorities say one person has died and another is in critical condition following a shooting in a Colorado Springs neighborhood.
  Police had responded to the shooting Saturday night to find a man in his 20s who died from an apparent gunshot wound. Another gunshot victim, believed to be in his 40s, was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition Sunday.
