    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- An ATV accident in Alma left one person dead and another injured Thursday night, according to New York State Police.
    Around 10 p.m. on July 4, 26-year-old Jesse Bestine and 25-year-old Zachary Barnett, both of Wellsville, were traveling east on County Road 38 when they swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle causing the ATV to overturn several times, police said.

    Readers found themselves out of luck this Independence Day. The Buffalo News will also no longer be published on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
    Last year, The Buffalo News cut 130 jobs.

    Erie County Legislator Howard Johnson resigns
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Legislator Howard Johnson has resigned today after five years of serving Erie County.
    His resignation is effective as of 11:59 p.m. Friday night.
    In a statement, Johnson said he was grateful to be able to serve the public and was proud of his accomplishments while in office. He cited his establishment of the Corrections Specialist Advisory Board, his creation of the Urban Initiative Fund and his role in approving pay raises for Erie County's elected officials.
