    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Tuesday morning, Buffalo Police say 35-year-old Joseph Aronica III set his own apartment building on fire, leaving nine people without a home.
    “He’s fallen through the cracks,” said Aronica’s mother Lillian Lombardo.
    She said Aronica’s been arrested more than 50 times. His latest charges are for Arson, Criminal Mischief, and Reckless Endangerment.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former Oklahoma state senator accused of engaging in child prostitution and pornography pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal charge of child sex trafficking.
    Former two-term Republican state Sen. Ralph Shortey pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Timothy DeGiusti in exchange for federal prosecutors dropping three child pornography charges against him.

  • Winter parking ban in Buffalo pushed back again

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Winter parking restrictions on bus routes in the city of Buffalo have been postponed- again.
    The city announced Thursday that the parking ban will now not go into effect until Dec. 6, due to favorable weather conditions.
    Seasonal parking rules are typically in effect from Nov. 15 to April 1.
    This is the third time this season that the parking ban has been postponed.

    BYRON, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-car motor vehicle crash in the Town of Byron that happened Thursday morning.

    HONOLULU (AP) — Jim Nabors, who played Gomer Pyle on TV’s “The Andy Griffith Show,” has died at 87.
    Nabors died peacefully at his home in Hawaii on Thursday with his husband, Stan Cadwallader, at his side. He was 87.
    Cadwallader says Nabors’ health had been declining for the past year. His immune system also was suppressed after he underwent a liver transplant about 20 years ago.

  • Gov. Cuomo vetoes bill to keep Children’s Psychiatric Center in West Seneca

    WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A measure to keep the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center in West Seneca has been vetoed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
    The state has been making plans to merge the facility with the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, which houses adults. The battle to keep the facility in West Seneca played out for several years.

  • Teen trying to kill bed bug causes $300K fire in Cincinnati

    CINCINNATI (AP) — Officials in Ohio say a 13-year-old boy trying to kill a bed bug sparked an apartment building fire that displaced eight people and caused $300,000 in damage in Cincinnati.
    Officials say the fire was reported around 11 p.m. Tuesday and began when the teen lit a match after dousing a bed bug with alcohol. Six apartment units were damaged in the fire.

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) —  People in Amherst can rest easy, knowing that a local turkey known for blocking traffic is no longer on the loose.
    Police in Amherst were able to capture the bird after getting a permit from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
    It had been seen often in the area of Klein Rd.
    The turkey will be released back into the wild in the future, but is at a rehabilitation facility for now.
  • Buffalo teen has been sentenced in fatal 2016 stabbing

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 19-year-old has been sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
    The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says Raquise Bryany stabbed and killed 19-year-old Raheem Malone on Genesee Street in Sept. 2016.
    Bryant pleaded guilty to the charge last month, one week before jury selection for his trial was set to begin.
    He will spend 11 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
