    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Staff at Women & Children’s Hospital have been preparing for months for the massive move from Bryant Street to the John Oishei Hospital on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
    Those behind this move say its a bit of an emotional experience moving a hospital, and of course, no small feat.
    Now 100 volunteers will try to make this just a little easier for staff, patients and neighbors who know and love this historic building.

  • Police: Officer in Virginia shot and rushed to hospital

    PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia say a police officer has been shot.
    Portsmouth police Detective Misty Holley said Monday in an email that the officer was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not available.
    Portsmouth police did not release information regarding a shooter or shooters.
    The shooting occurred about 2:45 p.m. on Hickory Street.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Nichols School in Buffalo was evacuated on Monday afternoon.
    Buffalo police responded to some type of text threat around 3:20 p.m. The text was sent to several students shortly before dismissal was scheduled.
    According to police, there was an apparent bomb threat. The text warned people to not be in Albright Hall at the end of the school day.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Every 20 years, New Yorkers get a chance to change the law of the land by voting for a Constitutional Convention.
    The provision to have a vote like this was created in 1846 as an alternative path to reform, in the event that New York voters didn’t feel their government was working for them.

  • Buffalo woman sentenced for role in WWI vet’s 1983 death

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Saundra Adams, 51, has been sentenced to 7-21 years in prison for her role in a 1983 burglary that led to an elderly man’s death.
    During that year, Adams and two other people broke into the Hastings Ave. home of 92-year-old World War I veteran Edmund Schreiber.
    Schreiber had been awarded a purple heart for injuries suffered in combat.
    Adams, a former librarian, pleaded guilty to First-Degree Manslaughter in September.

  • Dunkirk police looking for missing 15-year-old

    DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Dunkirk are looking for a missing girl.
    Athena Partyka, 15, lives on S. Martin St. She is approximately 5’6″, 215 lbs. and has brown hair.
    Partyka is believed to be wearing flip flops and a black jacket with two white stripes on the sleeves.
    Police say she left her residence between 12:30-9 a.m. this past Sunday.
    She has gone more than one day without her prescribed medications.

    WIRT, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Allegany County man has been charged with shooting an arrow through his neighbor’s dog.
    New York State Police responded to a 911 call on Saturday after hearing a dog was shot with an arrow in the Town of Wirt.
    According to Troopers, the one-year-old Beagle/Labrador mix entered the property of 63-year-old Marvin Boncore.

    PORTLAND, Maine (WCMH) — Doctors say a 9-year-old boy from Maine only has a month to live, so his family wants to help him have one last Christmas.
    WCSH reported Jacob Thompson was diagnosed with Stage 3 high-risk neuroblastoma when he was 5.
    In October, doctors told Jacob’s family he likely only had a month to live, according to CNN.

    HAMILTON, Ontario (WIVB) — Police in Hamilton, Ontario say a sewing needle was found in a piece of Halloween candy.

    EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A large sinkhole has formed in East Aurora.
    The sinkhole started forming around 9 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of Mikey Dee’s Cafe and Catering on Main St.
    According to a crew at the scene, the hole is about 60 feet long, 30 feet wide and 16 feet deep.
    There have been issues there before, involving a culvert. A temporary fix had been in place, but because of the rain, the culvert was destroyed.
