    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- 88-year-old Cheektowaga resident Martin Turkiewicz admitted before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case Thursday that he attacked his then 86-year-old wife with a claw hammer back in September.
    The assault occurred at the Garden Gate Healthcare Facility on Union Road in Cheektowaga, where now 87-year-old Rita Turkiewicz was staying.

    TOWN OF SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) says a man tried to bury his business.
    According to the DEC, an automotive garage on Route 20 in Sheridan had been in poor condition for several years before its owner, Sheridan Town Supervisor Louis Delmonte, decided to tear it down.
    The DEC says Delmonte borrowed a friend’s excavator and dug a large hole. Following this, officials say he attempted to demolish and bury the building.

    TOWN OF EVANS, N.Y. (WIVB) — The St. Columban Center has been sold to two investors for $1.4 million.
    The Diocese of Buffalo announced the sale on Thursday.
    “We review diocesan operations on a regular basis,” Bishop Richard Malone said, “and we determined that it was time to put the Columban Center on the market.”

    DETROIT (AP) — More than 40 million fire extinguishers in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled because they might not work in an emergency.

    Seven-year-old Hailey Dawson has an underdeveloped right hand.
    She met with United Airlines pilot First Officer Eric Gaffney. Gaffney was born without his right hand.
    The two shared stories, talked baseball and Hailey got to make an announcement through the plane’s PSA system.
    Hailey made headlines when she threw out the first pitch at game four of the World Series.
