    DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dunkirk police warned that there may be a city-wide power outage.
    The outage is expected to last 15-30 minutes.

    NEW YORK (AP) — CBS News stayed within its ranks on Wednesday to name correspondent Jeff Glor as anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” a storied broadcast led by Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather in the past but now a distant third in the television ratings.
    Glor, a Tonawanda native, replaces Scott Pelley, who was forced out awkwardly this spring after six years. Anthony Mason has been filling in since Pelley returned to “60 Minutes” full-time.

    NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Fats Domino, the amiable rock ‘n’ roll pioneer whose steady, pounding piano and easy baritone helped change popular music while honoring the traditions of the Crescent City, has died. He was 89.
    Mark Bone, chief investigator with the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, coroner’s office, said Domino died of natural causes early Tuesday.

  • Tonawanda man facing multiple charges including robbery, assault

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Tonawanda man is facing multiple charges after an August 22 incident.
    During that month, police say “a male victim was allegedly pulled into a vehicle, beat up, thrown out of the vehicle and ran over.”
    According to Tonawanda police, there was a dispute involving some type of debt that was owed.
    Joseph Schmitt, 27, who also has an outstanding warrant out of Amherst, faces the following charges:

    HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) — A jackpot-winning TAKE 5 ticket was sold in Hamburg.
    The ticket for the October 24 drawing was purchased at Lakeshore Mini Mart on Lakeshore Rd. It is worth $18,444.50.
    The winning numbers for the Tuesday drawing were 03-12-18-25-30.
    Three other top prize-winning tickets were sold in Elmont, Manhattan and the Bronx.
    TAKE 5 drawings are televised every evening at 11:21 p.m.
    Winning tickets must be cashed within one year of the drawing.
  • Two-year-old boy allegedly shot in head by father dies

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC-TV) — Two-year-old Zayden Phillips has died after he was shot inside of a home on Walnut Street in Rochester last week.
    Strong Memorial Hospital confirmed the toddler’s death Wednesday morning.
    On Oct. 20, police arrested Zayden’s father, Charles Phillips, for the shooting.
    According to a felony complaint, Charles shot Zayden in the head with a handgun.

  • 3 charged with drug, weapon possession in Jamestown

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Tuesday afternoon, three people were arrested following a search of a residence in Jamestown.
    Jamestown and Lakewood-Busti police obtained a search warrant amid an investigation involving a burglary.
    Authorities say the burglary took place in the Town of Busti.
    When officers, who were assisted by the Jamestown Police SWAT team, got into the Hedges Ave. residence in Jamestown, they say they found three handguns, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

    Say Yes Buffalo was awarded a $250,000 grant through the 2017 Youth Workforce Fund.

  • Man confesses to running sex trafficking ring out of Amherst motel

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has admitted to running a sex trafficking ring out of a motel.
    Derek Harris, 23, pleaded guilty to charges of Sex Trafficking and Promoting Prostitution.
    Harris confessed to running the illegal business out of the Boulevard Inn motel in Amherst.
    The Erie County District Attorney’s office said his victims were as young as 14 years old.
    Harris will be sentenced next month, and faces up to 25 years in prison.
