  • Arizona GOP Sen. Flake to retire, had tangled with Trump

    WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokesman says GOP Sen. Jeff Flake will not run for re-election in 2018.
    Flake, who has criticized the path that the Republican Party has taken under President Donald Trump, also told The Arizona Republic in advance of a Tuesday announcement, that “there may not be a place for a Republican like me” in the current GOP.
    Flake’s poll numbers had fallen after tangling with Trump. He had a tea party primary challenger in Kelli Ward, whom Trump has praised.
  • 2 men charged with stealing from Sardinia farmer’s market

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Following several thefts at a Sardinia farmer’s market, two men have been arrested.
    Matthew Solomon, 33, of Tonawanda, and James Thaler, 41, of Buffalo, were accused of taking cash and merchandise.
    The Erie County Sheriff’s office says they were caught stealing on surveillance video.
    Solomon was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Trespassing. Thaler faces the same charges, along with Criminal Mischief.

  • Pumpkinville offers family friendly fun for the fall season

    GREAT VALLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) — Thousands of pumpkins are grown at Pumpkinville each year. It’s the oldest pumpkin farm in New York state and there’s plenty of pumpkins to pick and fall attractions to see.
    “We start usually in early May plowing fields, planting by the end of May, and we harvested right up until yesterday,” said Dan Pawlowski, Pumpkinville owner.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — City of Tonawanda police say a drunk man crashed his truck and left the scene on Monday night.
    According to officials, Amherst resident Sergey Busko, 33, crashed into Clinton Park around 10 p.m.
    His truck became hung up on a concrete park bench. After police say he left the scene, they say Busko was found hiding behind a dumpster at the Cash for Cans store on Broad St.

    ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — You are now not allowed to vape anywhere you’re not allowed to smoke in New York State.
    Gov. Cuomo signed a bill that adds electronic cigarettes to the Clean Indoor Air Act. That means e-cigarettes are now banned in any place in which smoking tobacco products are banned.
    E-cigarettes were banned on all public and private school grounds back in July.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three vehicles were involved in a crash near Bailey and Northland avenues.
    According to Buffalo police, a vehicle struck another vehicle before striking a parked vehicle.
    The two drivers involved, who were only identified as women, were taken to ECMC with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
    The parked vehicle had nobody inside of it at the time.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Emergency crews and Hazmat crews were on the scene at the Wegmans parking lot on Military Road in Niagara Falls Monday night.
    According to officials, a semi hit the base of a light pole. After that, hydrogen gas started leaking from the truck.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Emergency crews and Hazmat crews were on the scene at the Wegmans parking lot on Military Road in Niagara Falls Monday night.

  • Hundreds pay their respects to fallen officer Craig Lehner

    HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) — Family, friends, and fellow officers are preparing to say a final goodbye to fallen Buffalo Police K-9 officer and diver Craig Lehner.
    Officer Lehner will be laid to rest Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday people can pay their respects in Hamburg at the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home. Both wakes are open to the public.
    Monday, hundreds of people mourned together at the wake. Police officers from all over western New York and even Canada came to pay their respects.
  • BUFFALO POLICE: Pedestrian struck on Delaware Avenue after “darting out” across street

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating an accident that occurred late Monday afternoon, involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
    The accident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Delaware Avenue.
    Investigators say a male about 60 to 70 years old darted across the street and was struck by a vehicle.
    The pedestrian was transported to ECMC with serious injuries.
    Police say no charges have been filed at this time.

    During the search for Officer Craig Lehner, the Army Corps of Engineers used survey technology to look through the debris, getting a “promising ping” last Monday night between the International Railway Bridge and Strawberry Island- where crews found Officer Lehner’s body the next day.
