  • Hamilton Police make arrest in 2005 murder of Niagara Falls man

    HAMILTON, ONT. (WIVB) – Hamilton Police have made an arrest in the 12-year-old cold case murder of a Niagara Falls man.
    Jermaine Dunkley, 32, was charged with first degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Michael Parmer.
    “Justice is finally being served,” said Dorothy Harris, Parmer’s mother. “Not a day go by that I do not question why my son’s life was taken at the early age of 22.”

  • Man killed in utility vehicle accident

    TOWN OF GAINESVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Wethersfield man was killed in a utility vehicle accident on Saturday night.
    The Wyoming County Sheriff’s office says Jesse Caudill, 36, was traveling on an abandoned railroad bed with two other people when the incident occurred.
    According to authorities, the operator lost control and drove over an embankment. That’s when Caudill was ejected from the vehicle and killed.
    The Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.

    Around 7:30 p.m., Jamestown police responded to a shooting on Barrows St.
    The victim was found inside a residence after reportedly being shot while in the front yard.
    He was taken to a hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
    Police say the shooting was intentional, and not a random act of violence.

    GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — A free Narcan training session is going to take place at Grand Island High School.
    The event will teach community members how to properly administer naloxone (Narcan) and perform follow-up care.

    FILLMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Someone in Allegany County bought a TAKE 5 ticket worth more than $67,000.
    The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the FMB Supermarket at 44 S. Genesee St. in Fillmore.
    The winning numbers for the October 22 drawing were 05-13-25-29-30.

    The letter was written the day before the ship sank. It was one of the last known letters that was written on the Titanic, and it’s the only known letter on Titanic-headed paper.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A new survey reveals people are bored at work.
    The Office Team staffing poll of about 700 workers and managers found the average employee is bored for about 10.5 hours per week.
    That adds up to 68 days each year.
    40 percent also said they would quit their jobs because of boredom.
    Men, along with their employees between the ages of 18 and 34, ranked as the most bored on the job.
  • New law gives health benefits to volunteer firefighters fighting cancer

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A new law will help volunteer firefighters who are battling certain cancers. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill Sunday. It was passed by the legislature in June, but the fight to get these benefits has been ongoing for years.
    For some volunteer firefighters, battling flames isn’t their only fight.
    “We didn’t volunteer to get cancer,” said Edward Tase, director for the Firemen Association of the State of New York.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Three people were charged with stealing more than $900 worth of items from a Kohl’s.

    Police say they ran out the store and into a car driven by James Rucker, 22.

    PAVILION, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 42-year-old man has serious injuries after being shot. It happened just after 7 p.m. Sunday in Pavilion.
    A member of the Pavilion Fire Department says the man and another person were hunting on a large piece of property off Perry Road when the shooting happened.
    We’re told the victim was shot in the arm and chest with a shot gun. He was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — This week fallen Buffalo Police Officer Craig Lehner will be laid to rest. Ahead of his funeral 400 blue light bulbs have been donated to his family, friends and fellow officers.
    Blue lights have been selling out since Officer Lehner passed.
    On Sunday a new shipment was delivered thanks to the Home Depot and Philips Light Bulbs. They were shipped overnight to make it in time.
