• Driver in fatal Lancaster hit & run sentenced to one year in jail

    LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB)- 32-year-old Sebastian Lavertu will spend the next year in county jail, after leaving the scene of a fatal hit and run in Lancaster in June.
    State Supreme Court Judge John Michalski sentenced Lavertu after he pleaded guilty to leaving the scene back in September.
    Lavertu is a truck driver, and was driving his tractor trailer when he struck and killed 28-year-old Ryan Johns of Depew.

    WARSAW, N.Y. (WIVB) – An inmate currently serving a life sentence for murder at Attica Correctional Facility was found guilty of assaulting another inmate.
    Devante Spencer, 24, was found guilty of first degree gang assault, first degree assault, and first degree promoting prison contraband by a jury in Wyoming County Court following a three-day trial.

    WARRENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they have charged a man with murder after he gave a 3-year-old boy a gun and told him to chase the victim around the yard of a South Carolina home.

  • State Police investigating thefts in Allegany County

    RUSHFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Police are investigating a series of burglaries and thefts in Allegany County.
    Troopers say the thefts have happened in the towns of New Hudson and Rushford during the last few months.
    Things that have been stolen include a Kubota excavator with a trailer, a “heavy duty” equipment trailer and several guns, State Police say.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – In the wake of a five day long search to find a Buffalo Police diver who went missing during a routine training exercise in the waters of the Niagara River, many Western New Yorkers are asking what went wrong and what can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future.

    Veronica Reynolds, 43, of Buffalo, was found guilty of second degree manslaughter and third degree assault in a non-jury trial.
